BRAC Uganda does it Again! Win FiRe Award in NGO Category.
At the 2015 FiRe (Financial Reporting) Awards ceremony held at Serena Hotel on 19th November 2015, BRAC Uganda was awarded winner general and over all, best report in the category of Non–governmental organisations.
BRAC Uganda has consistently won recognition in the NGO category since the start of the awards five years ago, espousing transparency and clarity in the quality of their reporting. In 2011, BRAC won the Bronze Award for report of the year; Winner NGO Category 2012; Communication Award and 1st runner up NGO category 2013; and first runner up overall Ngo category 2014.
Other NGOs that won awards in the NGO category this year include SNV Netherlands Development Organization Limited who were the second runners up general and Action Aid International Uganda as the first runners up in the NGO category. The chief guest, the Rt Hon Prime Minister called for organizations and businesses present to learn from the latest global financial crisis, reminding them that those involved in financial reporting are involved in a profession of trust hence the need for regurlarly audited and quality reports to ensure donor/investor trust.
In line with NGO sector efforts towards self-regulation and transparency through the Quality Assurance Mechanism (QuAM), these accolades are something for the sector to be proud of and these organizations need be commended for. We would also like to commend other UNNGOF members who submitted their reports for evaluation this year; Reproductive Health Uganda limited, Compassion International Uganda, the Legal Aid Project of Uganda law Society, PACE, Stromme Foundation, Build Africa Uganda and The Hunger Project Uganda.
The FiRe Awards is an event organized annually the last five years by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) and its overall aim is to promote best practices in financial reporting in compliance with international financial reporting standards as prescribed by ICPAU, for the various sectors of Uganda’s economy. The 2015 awards evaluated financial reports in the categories of; Banking Services; Insurance Services, Regulatory Bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations, Public Sector, Consumer and Industrial Products, Micro-Finance Institutions and SACCOs, Educational Services, Small and Medium-Sized Entities and Forex Bureaus.
BRAC is the worlds’s largest non-profit organization and a global leader in creating opportunity for the world’s poor. Starting from a modest launch in 2006, Uganda is the site of BRAC’s largest and fastest scale-up in Africa. There are currently programmes operating in microfinance, small enterprises, agriculture, poultry and livestock, health, education, youth empowerment, adolescent livelihood, and the Karamoja initiative. The programmes are halfway towards reaching its goal of serving 4.2 million people, which is 12 per cent of Uganda’s population, by 2016.
