This morning, the Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF) led a team of civil society organizations to engage with the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) on various issues of mutual interest.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the current human rights situation in the country and explore possible solutions that could jointly be undertaken to strengthen the enjoyment and respect of fundamental human rights and freedoms.
Some of the key issues discussed include; the reported cases of arbitrary arrests, torture and enforced disappearances, the plight of Ugandan migrant workers in the Middle East, emerging environmental and human rights issues in the Albertine region, the status of the National Civic Education Policy, and enforcement of decisions by the Human Rights Commission’s Tribunal and the courts of law among others.
We would like to thank the Uganda Human Rights Commission for the opportunity to discuss these issues and look forward to more meaningful collaboration in addressing key human rights concerns and fashioning solutions to Uganda’s democratic challenges.
Organizations present included; the Platform for Labour Action (PLA), the Alliance for Finance Monitoring (ACFIM), the Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG), the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU), the Women’s Democracy Network (WDNU), the Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET), and Global Rights Alert (GRA).
