Just like it has been in the past save for the virtual celebrations, 1st May is that time of the year when workers, employers, governments and other stakeholders take a reflective, stocking-taking and celebration mode for the scores in the labour and employment sector.

The NGO Regulations, 2017 and NGO Fees Regulations, 2017 were gazetted on 5th May 2017 to complete the process of drafting the legal framework for NGO operations in Uganda. It is important to note that Civil Society Organizations across the country under the auspices of the Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF) have for the last two years been in engaged in a rigorous advocacy campaign to ensure that the NGO Bill, 2015 addresses the major concerns of the NGO Sector.
On the 14th June 2017, Uganda National NGO Forum organized a policy advocacy training for its Sub National partners in Western Uganda. Held at Mbarara Catholic Social Center, the training was attended by 30 CSO actors drawn from the districts of Mbarara, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Rubirizi, Kiruhura, Sheema and Isingiro Districts.
The Uganda National NGO Forum is set to roll out a project called “Growing Opportunities for Constructive Civic Engagement for CSOs (GO-4-CCE) in Lango, Teso and Karamoja Regions” running from May 2017 to January 2018. The overall objective of this project is to formulate a constructive engagement strategy that supports the expansion of civic engagement space for civil society in the selected regions.
Fifty National, Local and International Organizations in Uganda representing various civil society institutions, met at Bomah Hotel in Gulu District over two days from 7th – 8th June 2017, to discuss issues and concerns relating to role of Local and National CSOs in the refugee response. The key outcomes of this meeting are presented in this communiqué.
One billion people - yes, you read that correctly: one billion - are trapped in a cycle of exclusion and poverty. Why? About 15 % of the world’s population lives with a disability. In most countries, children with disabilities are excluded from school. If they are prevented from exercising their right to an education now, they will remain excluded as adults: excluded from the labour market, from political participation, from medical aid - in fact, from any realistic chance of security and prosperity.
On 1st May 2017, CSOs, Government, Private sector and people from all walks of life gathered at Saza grounds, Kamuge sub-county in Pallisa district for the national celebrations to mark International Labour Day. The celebrations under the theme: ‘‘Building the Nation through Good Work Ethics’’ was attended by dignitaries, including the President, H.E Yoweri K.
The Uganda National NGO Forum under the auspices of the CSO Aid and Development Effectiveness Platform organized a High-Level breakfast meeting on March 16, 2017 in Kampala to popularize the Nairobi Outcome Document and to build a collective strategy for partners on how Uganda will take advantage of this renewed global commitment.This High-Level breakfast meeting was attended by over 50 representatives of Government, Parliament, Development Partners, Civil Society, and the Private Sector.
