AU-ECOSOCC Uganda Chapter

The Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) is an advisory organ of the African Union and the civil society Arm of the African Union is mandated to influence policy and development process of the member states on economic, social, political and cultural issues around Africa. By Virtue of the Executive Council Decision EX.CL/849(XXV), ECOSOCC held its elections of members into the 2nd Permanent General Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya on 22nd December 2014.

Uganda National NGO Forum and Uganda management Assistance Programme were elected and sworn into the Assembly. Following the constitution of the assembly and the Sectoral committees, national chapters were to be established in accordance with the ECOSOCC statutes.

AU-ECOSOCC Uganda Chapter has ten operational clusters with cluster heads and they are:

  1. Peace and Security which is led by ISIS WICCE: This cluster deals with Human Rights; Rule of Law; Democratic and Constitutional Rule, Good Governance; Power Sharing; Electoral Institutions; Humanitarian Affairs and assistance, etc
  2. Political Affairs led by FHRI: This cluster deals with Conflict Anticipation; prevention; management and resolution; post-conflict reconstruction and peace building; prevention and combating of terrorism; use of child soldiers; drug trafficking; illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons and security reforms, etc
  3. Infrastructure and energy led by Global Rights Alert: This cluster deals with Energy; Transport; Communications; Infrastructure and Tourism, etc.
  4. Social Affairs and Health led by CCG: This cluster deals with Health; Children; Drug Control; Population; Migration; Labour and Employment; Family; Aging; the physically challenged; sports; culture; youth and protection and social integration, etc
  5. Trade and Industry led by SEATINI: This cluster deals with Trade; Industry; handcrafts; Customs and Immigration Matters, etc.
  6. Rural Economy and Agriculture led by FRA: This cluster deals with Rural Economy; Agriculture and Food Security; Livestock; Environment; Water and Natural Resources and Desertification,
  7. Economic Affairs led by UDN: This cluster deals with Economic Integration; Monetary and Financial Affairs; Private Sector Development including the informal sector and Resource Mobilization
  8. Women and Gender led by UWONET: This cluster deals with women and gender related issues.
  9. Crosscutting Programs (no cluster head): This cluster deals with all other cross-cutting issues that are not covered in the above clusters such as HIV/AIDS, international cooperation, coordination with other institutions and organs of the Union
  10. Human Resources, Science and Technology (no cluster head): Education; illiteracy Information Technology; Communication; Human Resources; Science and Technology, etc
