New Report Faults NRM for Slow Progress on its 2011 election promises

The Uganda Governance Monitoring Platform, hosted by the Uganda National NGO Forum, is set to launch its second report that assesses the performance of the National Resistance

Movement Manifesto by evaluating the NRM 2011 election promises against the top ten development priorities identified in the Citizen Manifesto.

The report will be launched at a live event at the WBS Television Auditorium in Naguru on Tuesday 29th October, 2013 starting at 2pm. The event will feature leading development experts and political actors from across the divide in a roundtable discussion on the results and how the shortfalls can be addressed.

The report which is dubbed the “NRM Audit” was undertaken against the back drop of supporting both the demand and supply sides of governance by strengthening a citizen Movement for Political Accountability.

Findings of the report indicate that out of the 50 commitments audited, the NRM has made progress on 17, limited or no progress on 24 and backtracked/ registered negative gains on 9 commitments. From this, it is very clear that service delivery remains poor across the board.

It is hoped that the NRM Audit report will serve as a tool that will raise the focus on performance of government and delivery of the NRM as a party on its promises.
