Affirming Our Relevance – Celebrating 5 Years of the National CSO Fair!
On the 25th and 26th of June 2015, Hotel Africana Kampala was the place to be! With exhibitors in hundreds and visitors to the stalls in thousands, the People’s Space was a colorful display of the diversity and richness in content of civil society work. The 20 parallel sessions, with rich and interactive discussions on the economic, governance, social and environment themes, had over 2000 people participating, including primary school pupils and secondary school students. All this made for a truly vibrant celebration of 5 years of the National CSO Fair!
This year’s theme, ‘Leaving No One behind, Uganda’s Place in the Next Global Development Agenda’ provided an opportunity to increase citizen awareness and participation in the Post 2015 agenda and enhance civil society collective engagements in advancing the Post 2015 Development agenda in Uganda.
We commend the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Honourable Ruhakana Rugunda, the Head of the European Union Delegation in Uganda, H.E Ambassador Kristian Schmidt; Head of Programmes Democratic Governance Facility, Ms. Helen Mealins; and the Chairperson of the National NGO Registration Board, Ambassador George William Kangwagye, for accepting our invitation and gracing the 5th Edition of the National CSO Fair. Special gratitude to Dr. Julius Kiiza for presenting the key note address on the topic “SDGs: The Moment the World has been waiting for or development rhetoric?”
We also extend our gratitude and appreciation for the coordination and sponsorship role played by all organizations that convened sessions, exhibited their work and contributed in various ways to a successful 5th National CSO Fair. We recognize all persons who attended the two day event; participating in the 21 thematic parallel sessions and touring the 204exhibition stalls.
Further, we express our gratitude to the Board and Secretariat of the Uganda National NGO Forum for their continued leadership in convening the wider civil society to participate in the CSO Fair for the fifth year running. This year UNNGOF’s contribution to the CSO Fair was with the support of DGF. We also recognize the core financial support of the co-sponsors; Kabarole Research and Resource and Centre, Action Aid International and Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development (ACORD).
