After regional consultations in Busoga, Kigezi, Bukedi and Teso, residents of Bunyoro region gathered for the consultative forum on the free and fair elections from 10th to 11th October 2014. The participation ranged across all the five districts of Bunyoro including but not limited to Masindi, Hoima, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Kibaale and Buliisa.

On the morning of 07th October 2014, Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF), Community Development and Child Welfare Initiative (CODI), and Mukono District NGO Forum set out to bring citizens together to celebrate Uganda’s Independence. The idea was to involve citizens in the Independence celebrations on the background that the National state-organised celebrations are political and too executive for an ordinary Ugandan.

Yesterday, 25th September 2014,representatives from EALS, EABC, EANNASO and EACSOF held a collaborative meeting with the Rt. Honorable Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Dr. Zziwa Nantongo Margaret at her offices in Arusha.

Describing her as an exemplary leader in Africa, the delegates expressed a need for closer collaboration between EALA and civil society in order to further support EALA in its triple role of representation, legislation and oversight.

This edition profiles a snap shot of the research undertaken by Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda– “Temples of Injustice” that revealed corruption trends and shocking malpractices within the Judiciary that undermine access to justice.

This newsletter also expounds on the issue of the Marriage and Divorce Bill and how corruption undermined the process of ensuring that such an important law is passed.
