CSO Representatives to the EITI –MSG for Uganda elected

On 19th March 2021, UNNGOF joined other CSO actors under the Coalition on Oil and Gas for a meeting to vote for proxies to EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group for Uganda. Uganda was admitted into the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in August 2020 by the EITI International Secretariat making it the 54th member country globally, and 26th African country to join the initiative.

RANs strengthened to meet their legal obligations

UNNGOF appreciates the fact that the NGO regulatory framework in Uganda has been evolving and as a result most NGOs may not be moving at the speed that the regulatory systems and frameworks are moving. For example, over the last few months, the NGO Bureau teams have conducted impromptu visits to NGO offices across the country and the exercise caught a number of NGOs off guard in terms of regulatory compliance.

Regional Advocacy Networks receive IT support

As part of boosting record keeping, documentation and communication amongst the UNNGOF sub national partners, 11 laptops were donated to 11 Regional Advocacy Networks(RANs) by UNNGOF in partnership with Forus and with funding from European Commission. This support comes under the UNNGOF-Forus one-year project that aims at strengthening communication and governance in Umbrella Organizations.

The story of Reach Out Mbuya Community Health Initiative (ROM) starts in 2000/2001 with the then parish priest of Our Lady of Africa Catholic Church Mbuya – Kampala Archdiocese. As we all know, the main duty of priests is to preach the gospel to God’s people and this can be done in or outside the church.

Achieving an equal future in a COVID19 world”. The event aimed at celebrating the milestones reached by women, recognize the challenges and also dedicated towards realizing the full rights of women including those women with disabilities.

Our Member, Local Sustainable Communities Organization (LOSCO) based in Kabale-South Western Uganda is running an initiative dubbed “A Girl A Pad Campaign” whose mission is to procure a low cost and accessible sanitary ware for school going girls hence minimize the number of days girls missed going to school, create socio-economic acceptance of the innovated product, procure and distribute sanitary pads for adolescents and document all steps in the whole process as learning and monitoring tool.

Local Government leaders have been challenged to fast-truck the establishment and operationalization of the NGO Monitoring committees to ensure state and non- state actors relate in a more constructive and peaceful way. This call was made by Mr. Stephen Okello the Executive Director NGO Bureau during the Karamoja sub- region CSO dialogue on the NGO Act 2016 and Public Order Management Act, held on 22nd August 2017 at Karibu Country Gardens Abim District.
