Launch of a study report on citizen voices on the East African Integration
Uganda National NGO Forum, with support from Trademark East Africa, is launching a report with information generated from a research on citizens’ views on key areas related to East Africa integration today Tuesday 27th of November 2012 at Protea Hotel, starting at 8:00a.m.
Studies have shown that regional integration can contribute to a more equitable pattern of development if it has a strong social dimension. However, it is important to involve citizens in the development of a stronger citizen-led advocacy for more effective integration and trade.
From the study, over 70% of citizens have a fair understanding of regional integration, but more than 50% of the citizens showed the need for more information in order to clearly understand the integration process and opportunities.
“As a platform organisation and representative of NGOs, many policy advocacy messages were highlighted and the need for a dialogue mechanism that will enhance citizens’ awareness, ownership and sustainability of the integration process,” said Richard Ssewakiryanga, the Executive Director, Uganda National NGO Forum.
Uganda National NGO Forum is an inclusive national platform that was formed to create a ‘broad-based’ national body for NGOs to come together in their diversity and pursue a collective agenda or engagement with government and other development actors. We are a membership platform that creates space for NGOs to think and strategize on matters of mutual interest.
