The Morning of Tuesday 7th July saw over 70 delegates from over 25 countries on the African continent join as a constituency to consolidate their common messages around the forthcoming 3rd United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development slated for 13th – 16th July 2015 in Addis Ababa.

In collaboration with Reality of Aid Africa Network, Uganda National NGO Forum hosted delegates to a preparatory meeting of Pan African CSOs at Imperial Golf View Hotel Entebbe. Welcomed by traditional dances and a taste of the rich cultures of Uganda, delegates came together acquaint themselves on the process and status of the Addis Ababa outcome document; develop key messages for the African CSOs delegations towards the CSO and official United Nations (UN) documents on Financing for Development (FfD); and develop the African CSO statement on the UN FfD process. The chief guest at the opening was the minister of State for Microfinance, Hon Caroline Okao who in her remarks reiterated the importance of deliberating on the challenges caused by corruption, capital outflows and trade imbalances as these have an adverse impact on financing for development.

The 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa remains important to the African continent since it will be the first time that the conference is being hosted on the African continent by an African country. It will seek to review the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and Doha Declaration on Financing for Development; address new challenges in the mobilization and effective use of financial resources for sustainable development; and re-energize the financing for development follow up process. The outcomes of the Addis Ababa conference have the potential to be a major stepping stone for the Summit on the Post 2015 development agenda in September 2015.

The discussions over the next few days can be followed on the UNNGOF social media pages.
